Techno Is Good For You.

Do you ever hear a song with such an insane bassline that you instantly get goose bumps? That you just cringe in excitement of imagining the pulsating waves resonating in you from speakers taller than yourself? And then you lose yourself in your fantasy of sky-scraping speakers until you realize your friend is asking if you're alright?
Either way, you've got to appreciate them somehow. I've been listening to a lot of Len Faki, and I'm definitely falling in love with the (Berghain) Techno sound. When I first started listening to this stuff, all I could think of was a bunch of concrete walls. It just felt so cold and soulless - overwhelmingly mechanical and devoid of any emotion. But as I listened to more, I realized what was so deeply appealing about it. It's pure, but unnaturally so. It's raw and industrial, and self-aware and assertive of this. Its lack of sense and emotion give way to a hedonistic sense of timelessness. That, or I just really love Techno.
Check out some of these bombs right here. Oh, and please listen to these with headphones or real speakers, the tower ones.
Matt Nordstrom & Orlando Villegas - Spanglish (Len Faki Edit) (The reverb right before the main drop messes with your head so badly!)

New Booka Shade Album: More!

Booka Shade's 5th full length album More! will be released in the US on May 3rd. Although since it has already been out in Germany since April 23rd, all the songs are up on YouTube. And all I can say is, I cannot wait to get my hands on this album. The "Interpretation" of "Donut", an already classic tune, shows how much Booka Shade have really perfected a new sound. It's sounding incredible, definitely some of their most solid stuff in the past few years. I'll post more comments on the album once I get a more thorough listen.

Trentemoller has released the single "Sycamore Feeling" off of his second album, "Into The Great Wide Yonder." He's already remixed it as well, "Sycamore Feeling (Trentemoller Remix)". Sounding really promising, cannot wait for the entire album to come out in June!!! The official music video is out, but I'd say listen first.

The tracklist of the album is:

3. Past the Beginning of the End

Techno Soul Train! (My First Video)

So my buddy and I were listening to Guy Gerber's "Unfulfilled", and for some reason it reminded him of 70s funk. We put on some Soul Train dancing videos to the song and it worked perfectly! I did some editing, and for the most part I think it works pretty well.
Check it out! (You're better off watching it normal size on the actual YouTube page)

Talent To Look For: Mason Bach

A few weeks back I first heard Mason Bach's Remix of "Nice Guy" originally by Subfractal. I'm a huge minimal fan and I'm definitely really picky. A lot of the new stuff coming out is good, but most is just too hollow for me to feel like I'm listening to something intelligent. That's why I got so excited when I first heard this remix. It's deep - really deep. And it moves, but just enough to tease you until the drop. I checked out his other stuff, and while he's only got 3 remixes out on Beatport, they're all quality.

Sexy Gui Boratto Remix + Ryan Davis + More!

Gui Boratto has remixed a few Bomb the Bass tunes, and he has never failed to disappoint. Check out his newest work, "Up The Mountain feat. The Battle of Land And Sea (Gui Boratto Remix)". Really loving the slow melody, and the almost whispered vocals are just too good.

(Ryan) Davis & (Lanny) May

I first heard these guys in a mix of Sasha at Amnesia, Cream, Ibiza. "Neotron (Ryan Davis Edit)" by Davis & May is one of the best techno songs out there. The melodious buildup is raw emotion at its best - such positive energy! Well, I've been listening to a lot of Ryan Davis stuff and it's really really good. Check these out:

Guy Gerber + Massive Attack

Guy Gerber
Israel's sexiest producer (his music of course). I don't know why it took me this long, but I have just listened to his song Timing and it is amazing! Definitely a new favorite. He's also re-edited one of my old favorites, "Knights of Columbos" by On Spec. Here's Guy Gerber's Re-Edit.

Massive Attack's "Heligoland"

I've always been a big fan of Massive Attack, and their new album definitely does not disappoint. You can preview the entire album on the player, or just go straight to my favorites here:

Marek Hemmann + Oliver Koletzki (Gotta Love the Tech House!)

I'm not the biggest genre elitist, nor am I OCD about classification, but I'm usually not the biggest fan of Tech House. It's like minimal, but it doesn't get deep. It's like Techno, but it doesn't move. That said, it's hard for me to find myself listening to an entire Tech House track.
However, I've just discovered Marek Hemman's album "In Between" and now I'm hooked (with everything that I've felt was missing from the genre and more)!
Here are some of my favorites from the album:
NTMYT (favorite)

Oliver Koletzki:

If you haven't heard already, Trentemoller's second album entitled "Into the Great Wide Yonder" will be released in May. And if that's not exciting enough, he's releasing a single "Sycamore Feeling" in April.

Essential Mixes all from one site!

Current favorite: Dubfire (just a warning: it's pretty dark!).

New Gui Boratto Track + More Music!

Gui Boratto's "Azzurra (It's Not The Same Version)" is quite possibly one of his best tracks. The original was good, but it was just a little too dry for me. The added vocals in the new version really do an awesome job at completing the song and giving it a much fuller and emotional sound.
Also check out "Telecaster" on the same release.

[TECHNO/MINIMAL]
These first four tracks on this list are DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

Have you heard Magda's "Fabric 49" mix? You better have. Anyways, here's some of the top original songs off of the album:

Interact With Your Music: Audiosurf!

Have you ever wished there was a more interactive version of your iTunes visualizer? Something where you could not only just watch? Well there is! And it's awesome. It's called Audiosurf, and it's sort of like Guitar Hero using your PC and choosing any of your songs (MP3s or MP4s).
This video is not particularly great (the song isn't perfect to the visuals), but you get the main idea. You can change the layout and colorscheme of the visuals, as well as game type (although "Mono" - what you see in the video - is probably most fun and compliments the songs best).
Just know that the game does not register bass as the best criteria for energy, and it's sometimes better to use more synth/vocal/noise driven songs if you want a fast paced game.
Check the demo out, and you can buy it and download off of Steam for $10.

New Moonbeam and More Techno!

This Russian duo is amazing! They have an insane amount of tracks and remixes out (can't say I've listened to all of them) and while some are not so great, the good ones are AWESOME! Not really a fan of vocals and trance synths (I'm quite biased...). But make sure you've heard these before checking out their new tunes:
Blackfeel Wite - First Night (Moonbeam Remix) [Slightly trancy for my tastes, but it's way too good for me to actually care]
...and waaaaaaaay too many others!

On to the new tunes which are massive!

More Techno:
Hobo - Touch [Minimal]

You Need To Download These Mixes! + Vontroke's "Vocal Chords" Remixed.

Wighnomy Brothers Live at Watergate Berlin
If you haven't heard of these guys, you need to check out their remixes of Gui Boratto's "No Turning Back" and Royksopp's "Beautiful Day Without You."
This mix doesn't sound much like the remixes, going a lot deeper into the techno, but it's still laid back enough to give you that warm Wighnomy feeling.
Download @ ResonantVibes.

Trentemoller at Betalounge, Hamburg
Oh my god how can you not be in love with this man?! He's amazing. Period. Hopefully you're already familiar with his essential mix (which I think won a few awards?). I've already said it, but the way he blends all types of music is stunning. I wish I could listen to music the way he does.
Anyways, check this mix out, really chill as usual, many genres, and so great to put on in the evening.

Sandwell District's RA Podcast
Another awesome mix from Resident Advisor's weekly podcasts. This mix bleeds techno. It almost hurts. You can definitely tell it was made for home listening, as it's still low on the BPM.

mnml ssgs Mixes
(That's called minimal sausages) People have been saying that minimal is dying for years. Sure, it got way too trendy for a bit, but now that there's less focus on the scene, the stuff that's coming out is good. Really good. If you're a fan of minimal, definitely check out mnml ssgs as these guys really know their stuff. That and they host awesome podcasts, all downloadable on the page menu. I haven't listened to all of them, but if you're scared at choosing a first, try Silent Servant's Mix #30.

Magda Live @ 10 Days Off, Belgium
Oh yes. More minimal. This is one of my favorite mixes from Magda. It's upbeat and busy, as usual, but it's not too much so that I can't use it as "pump me up" background music.

If you're curious to check out other mixes yourself, ResonantVibes is the perfect place to do it, especially with the ability to stream the mix before (or instead of) downloading it. Also check out Seth E's profile as he uploads the best stuff.

Claude Vonstroke Remixed!
I'm definitely a fan of "Vocal Chords". Oh boy does that drop get me every time. Such a fun tune. There have been a few remixes, but they were crap. Finally Tim Green and Voodeux have produced something of quality!

More Music.

PS: Happy New Year!!!
